The passenger had a pet appointment and wanted me to wait. We waited and her pet was diagnosed and took both of them home. She tipped very generously.
Our cat is alive because we DID NOT take this vet’s advice! We got a second opinion from another vet after Dr. "Sunshine" advised us to euthanize our older cat immediately when we brought him in for lack of appetite and altered breathing. Their "exam" was maybe 5 minutes and they came out strongly recommending to put him down then and there, without any testing or imaging to confirm the "diagnosis" of a mass in the chest or any other reason for his mouth breathing. My daughter was in anguish and sobbing – he’s been her cat nearly her whole life. We asked for options and they didn’t suggest any tests – just offered steroids. We’re SO GLAD we didn’t take their recommendation and went to Boulder Road Vet clinic for a second opinion. They did actual tests (like ultrasound and blood oxygen), provided options, and it turned out he was just very congested and we could treat him with OTC nasal spray and a shot of Convenia. He is doing FINE now – eating, cuddling, purring meowing, sitting on my grateful daughter’s lap. Nowhere NEAR the "death’s door’ of VCA’s VERY LAZY diagnosis, which would have just discarded our beloved old friend without making ANY real effort to help him. Oh, and steroids would have been BAD for his known kidney condition, so that would have done more harm than good. A mis-diagnosis is one thing, but to recommend death with no tests or even thorough exam is just unconscionable. DO NOT RECOMMEND (despite having used them for years for routine shots, etc. They’d gotten all corporate and pushing expensive tests most of the time, but we thought they were at least conscientious and ethical. Apparently not.)
The staff is amazing it’s a shame that the one in Lafayette is closing because the staff over there is phenomenal
