My girlfriend and I decided to take our 1 yr old German Shepherd mix to get his routine checkup and shots. We have done extensive training with our dog to ensure it was an easy experience for everyone. This was his very first visit with Allegheny Veterinary Associates so we muzzle trained for months in preparation to make sure the staff felt comfortable. Our dog has 0 bite history but is weary of new people (as most dogs are). Upon arrival we received a cold shoulder from the staff as they informed us the vet tech had been bitten by a German shepherd the day before. Apparently even dogs get stereotyped!! Throughout the exam and evaluation, our dog only growled one time with no other issues. Next, Dr. Nikki came in to give our dog his shots without giving any introduction, not doing a thorough evaluation, and was very unprofessional. If you take the time to read the negative reviews, listen to them please don?t take your dog here. Dr. Nikki is very unprofessional and it is clear she operates a business instead of caring about what she does. She even dared us to bring our dog back without a muzzle to see what happens. I can?t reiterate enough to stay clear of this place! The fact that they have a 4.9 review is laughable. Go take classes on dog behavior!

I am disappointed with the level of care and lack of professionalism myself and my pet were shown at our most recent visits. I do not recommend this vet for any dog owner with a reactive/fearful dog. If I could, I would give 0 stars.

As the owner of a fearful dog breed, I was in search for a caring and loving vet who would be patient and allow my dog to warm up to them prior to her being seen. When we saw Dr. Niki, she laid on the floor with my dog and made us feel at ease. In turn, I recommended Allegheny Veterinary Associates to a close friend because of the kindness and patience my husband and I were shown with our 3 year old German Shepherd. I am embarrassed to have recommended them to this vet.

At our most recent visits, we have shown up with our dog in a muzzle out of protection to the staff because our dog is fearful to new people. When we arrived for a simple bordatella shot, as soon as we walked in, the vet tech immediately said “oh this will be fun” in a joking tone to the receptionist prior to seeing our dog. He then proceeded to offer us the oral shot to give to her as he did not want to do so himself. Yesterday, we arrived and saw the SAME vet tech who took our dog to get weighed and proceeded to share with us the fact that she was very fearful, removed her muzzle, etc. Instead of being professional, he continued to attempt to give her two shots instead of offering us other solutions (rescheduling with calming medication etc).

In turn, the friend I recommended AVA to had an awful experience due to their dog being the SAME dog breed as mine. The owners were not shown with respect and their hard work in training their dog was degraded out of the previous encounters with other “reactive/fearful” dog breeds. If you love your pet and are looking for a vet to love your dog too, do not go here. They offered no love, solutions, and charged you for things that could have easily been prevented.

If you love and care for your pet DO NOT go here! Dr. Nikki was extremely unprofessional and down right ignorant. Not only did she muzzle shame us for being proactive and responsible dog owners, she yelled and taunted at us to “bring him in without the muzzle and let’s see what happens”. I can’t even begin to imagine any type of vet that would use those EXACT words. We were charged for a well visit when the well-being of our 1 year old puppy was certainly NOT a priority.

I can’t say enough about Dr Nikki and crew. They are all pleasant and more than willing to work with you. I have done plenty of training with my Large GSD, however when he gets to the vets he is scared to death. Everyone is calm and patient with him. I will NEVER see another vet.

They are so great with my pup and have helped us get through some tough health issues. So attentive and they give you all the time you need to ask questions and understand what?s going on.
