If you are looking for a vet for your family pet, I can give Dr. Burkey a 5 star review. My family first started taking our cats and dogs to see Dr. Burkey when he first came to our area which was over 20 years ago. He has always guided us in the right direction to treat our pets. We relied on him to do so and we expected that he would be there when we called on him for help. But let me tell you about a special case: A dear friend of mine had an emergency with her dog where he was passing blood in his stool. She did not have a vet in this area. It was just about closing time on a Saturday when I called Dr. Burkey to see if he could help. We did not know the severity of Shady’s illness but my friend was scared. Dr. Burkey stayed to meet us at his office. Upon examination he diagnosed my friend’s dog with hemorrhagic gastroenteritis and said he could die from it if Dr, Burkey did not act quickly. Now here is the important part of this story………Dr. Burkey had plans to go to VT after closing that day for a game but he cancelled his plans and stayed at the hospital all night with Shady (a pet that was not even his patient until that day) and with proper IVs and meds was able to pull her through…….Is that the kind of vet you want for your pet member of your family? Don’t we all!

If I could give 100 stars to this place I most definitely would. Everyone is just so wonderful. Dr. Burkey, Dr. Grant, Dr. Valentine, Sheila, Angie, Tamia, Torey, Alexis, Hannah. (Yes I asked all their names) From the Drs to the receptionists, to the vet techs and their assistants. Everyone is like family there. And it really shows.
I do not want to go into details but believe me when I say Dr. Burkey was there for me and my family when our little Layla was not well. It happened over night and sometimes you just have to except the fact that if something is going to happen, it is going to happen. HOWEVER, Both Dr. Burkey and Dr. Grant worked together to try and save our little Layla. Unfortunately, she was too far gone and that is okay. My point is they did not give up hope. They did not turn me away and they made sure I was aware of what was to come. Everyone was caring, kind, helpful, and so comforting. I can not tell you how GRATEFUL I am to have such amazing people taking care of my babies. Just like any family owned business, they treat you LIKE FAMILY. I see people are complaining about pricing but you have to understand 3 things. 1.) they are trying to run a business which is not easy to do in this economical climate. 2.) If prices are a problem then maybe you should have investigated a little more into owning a pet before you got him or her. They are like children. 3.) Always remember, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR and there at Bermuda Hundred I know my babies are in great hands.and if I am being honest their prices are not bad at all. If you really check around theirs are average with most vet institutions around Chester. The difference is the care and how they treat you.
Hands down the best place to bring your fur babies.

I’ve been taking my dogs to this Veterinary Hospital for about 14 years and in the last few years they’ve been declining. They lose samples and are very unorganized. There are new employees almost every time you go and they are not friendly at all. I would hate to switch to another place but at this point I may have to. One thing they don’t seem to realize is with there mistakes it cost me extra time and money because I have to make a special trip.

Worst Vet I have ever been to in my life. My dog was in serious pain and was puking all over herself and practically dying, went to this vet to get some help trying to figure out what was wrong with her. We went in and waited for 2 hours for the Dr to tell us what is going on with her while she was shaking and barely breathing, he was attending to every other animal in the vet but her, even when we were the first ones there. Not to mention they were carrying our sick dog around by her neck and almost dropped her, very unprofessional team, seemed to not care about animals. If you want to keep your pet alive don’t go here, after waiting for 2 hours to figure out what was wrong, we were sent to an emergency vet where she died 3 hours later. Not to say he was the reason my dog died but having to wait 2 hours to get a diagnosis with an animal as sick as her, is absolutely ridiculous. I am not usually one to post bad comments, but I work in the medical field, and thought that it was worth letting other people know about.
