Devastating, always do your own checking on a medication even if a doctor prescribes it. My extremely healthy, active, precious puppy who tries so hard just turned 30 weeks old. The day born is incorrect on her paper, was brought into vet for an abscess on her neck, no fever, no pain, active. She was given medication. By the second day on she could not walk back leg pain. I thought it must be an injury. By day 7 on meds still problems walking with back leg mostly just laying down all the time but noticed front leg was now bad. Finally by day 9 on meds I looked up medication it is not supposed to be given to puppies and not even until 2 years old for large breed dogs. My puppy can no longer sit (she holds back leg up and then falls over), whines when she gets up, has to be carried up/down the 3 steps to house she can’t do it. She just lays all day while other dogs are running and playing. I called emergency vet last night they said keep her still to make sure she doesn’t tear cartilage and she will probably have to be on pain medication and a joint supplement for arthritis the rest of her life. This vet has helped my other dogs, thought highly of him, I am just so saddened over this incident. To top it off she didn’t get better from the medicine, the meds did nothing. It was the tumeric I gave her in conjunction with that helped. The lump didn’t go down until she started tumeric on day 3, lump got bigger when she off for a day, had a good sized lump when off meds and tumeric started her back on tumeric alone and now completely gone. Always go for natural first so you don’t get the medicine side effects, mad at myself for not doing my norm and listening to someone else.
