We rushed our dog at about 7:30 p.m. on a Saturday as his symptoms were frightening – lethargic and swayed when standing. We called first and were not surprised when told it would be a 2-4 hour wait. When we arrived their were three families present in rooms and one in the lobby. We were told that someone would be out to triage our pet – which never happened. After 11:00, all the pet owners in rooms were gone. I begged that we just have a very short consult with the vet – willing to pay the whole exam fee – just to see if the vet felt that it was critical or could it wait til the next day. After much begging, I was told that there was only one vet and one tech and that it wouldn’t be much longer. At midnight, I again begged for a few moments with the vet – the desk person left and came back and said the the doctor was doing his notes and it should only be a few minutes. Fifteen minutes later, I asked if they could check how the doctor was doing on the notes. They again left and came back and said that the doctor was discharging a patient. I thought – “okay – that can’t take more than ten minutes. At this point, we had been alone in the waiting room for over an hour – my fear was that a critical pet would come in and we would be pushed back further, which is exactly what happened. A terrified person came in with a very sick cat. We were then told it could be 1-2 more hours and more if another very sick pet came in. We had received no medical care at all and had now been there for 6.5 hours- after 2:00 a.m. we decided he was stable enough to wait for a visit to a Sunday vet. During the many hours that we were there, no caring was shown for our pet’s well being. And we were not treated with any warm consideration as worried pet owners. The next morning, we saw a wonderful, caring vet who did a full physical and correct diagnosis in less than 15 minutes.

The only reason I give it a four is because I was there to euthanize my dog. My dog was old, blind and seizing every two hours. He was suffering. I called different places for euthanasia service and many said by appointment only and some said they were booked until 03/31/23. I needed to end my dogs suffering today. So, I was referred to Long Beach Animal Emergency. I called in advance and explained the situation. Very calmly the receptionist explained to me the steps and procedures. They gave me an estimate and well they made me feel that I could trust them to end my dogs suffering. When we arrived, my son had our dog in his arms and Alexa one of the receptionists stood up and met my son halfway and took our dog into her arms and rushed him to a room. They did not force any x-rays, lab work or examinations. They knew it was time for him to go. They prepped him and gave me time to say goodbye and when it was time, they were quick, and my dog peacefully crossed over to rainbow bridge. They gave me more alone time after he had passed but I did not need it. my dog was no longer suffering. Thank you for your help and compassion.

They keep your pet in the back for no reason forever AFTER telling you to come get them. I’ve been waiting an hour and counting.. They don’t give you a receipt until your pet comes out which means you’re stuck. No one at the front desk for new arrivals which is insane for an EMERGENCY clinic. Get it together!
