On 5/13/23 on Saturday around 830pm we drove from Iowa City to Bettendorf because at the time we were unaware of other ER 24 Hr Vet Clinics.
The clinic was busy when we arrived around 1030pm. When we arrived the rude flakey middle age woman at the desk told us they couldn’t see our dog because they were too busy and said I should have gone to some other clinic location. She then said the wait would be 2 to 3 hours. I said that’s fine we can wait. She kept saying she had to check with the vet to see if the vet would see our dog. Finally she told me they would not see our dog. Our concern was because we rescued this dog from Texas and the dog was delivered to
us around 8pm the same day and we were told by the animal transporter that she noticed the dog had round white worms in its stool. I hope you can imagine how concerned we were! All we needed was some medication for our dog. We were willing to wait whatever time was needed! Shamefully they said no! This is why I gave the clinic one star!

My chihuahua was coughing and seemed congested. It was late at night so I did some research on the internet to see what I could give dogs for a cold. The only thing I had on hand that was safe was musinex. I gave her a little and my husband took her to bed with him and I stayed up awhile watching tv.

A little later my husband rushed in saying she had stopped breathing and passed out. I started calling her name and she came to.

We rushed to the emergency hospital, and I handed her over to an employee. They took her to a backroom, but then came out and said, "I have to know RIGHT NOW if you want us to try to save her?"

I said, "Of course I do! If you think you can save her… yes! Of course I do!"

We were told to wait in a side waiting room. My husband and I were both emotional. She was a part of our family for over 11 years.

The vet comes in a little later and says bluntly. "Well, she’s dead."

    I couldn’t believe it.

"She was dead by the time I saw her in the exam room, but since you said you wanted us to try to save her, I did try putting a tube down her. But she was already dead. I couldn’t save her."

I said, "What happened? What did she die from?"

    She said congestive heart failure.

I was trying to process this and said something like… so it was natural causes?

The vet snapped, no! It was preventable! You can treat it! You should have had her treated!

I told her she hadn’t acted sick. Just had a bit of a cough and sounded congested like a cold but that had just started that night. I had given her some musinex that I had read on a vet site was ok to give dogs. It was late at night and everything was closed.

She snapped "Dogs don’t get colds! You should have had her treated! This could have been prevented!"

Then she gave me an almost $400 bill and the whole thing had taken about 10 to 15 minutes and she had told me she was already dead when she tried life saving measures!

They did nothing for her, practically blamed her death on me, and said congestive heart failure is NOT a natural cause? That dogs don’t get colds and charged us $400.

She was rude and had no compassion at all. My husband and I were both crying and she acted annoyed by it. Then treated us like we killed our beloved Pepper.

She had NOT been acting sick. She had just that night had cold like symptoms but nothing before that. She was a very happy girl. The best dog.

The vet there was the most cold-hearted, uncaring, uncompassionate person I’ve ever met. I will never set foot there again! This happened last summer and we are still heartbroken from our loss and will never forget the treatment we received.

Staff is very unfriendly. They seemed annoyed that we came to their clinic despite it being called an emergency service. They also seemed angered at the fact that we didn’t call ahead…
