After my cats untimely and heartbreaking death, I was told by their medical director that she didn’t receive proper care by the attending veterinarian and care team. She offered to pay us $1,000 to not file any claims or disparage them. I couldn’t sign my name to a document that included this:

No Admissions. It is understood and agreed by the parties that this Agreement represents a compromise and
settlement of doubtful and disputed claims, and that the promises and payments in consideration of this
Agreement shall not be construed to be an admission of any liability or obligation by any party to any other
    party or any other person.

What I wanted was an apology from the vet and to know what discipline, training, or procedural changes were happening as a result of their mistakes and poor communication. I was told that was impossible.

I have waited 90 days to post this to let my grief and anger dissipate. We have been long term Banfield LO clients. Gone are the days when this felt like a small business and that you could talk to the vet and build a relationship.

Post-Covid it’s depersonalized. After dropping Lucy off at 9:30am with acute vomiting, I didn’t talk to a vet until 5:35. Along the way I was told my cat was overweight and really could use a teeth cleaning. I was sent home with a syringe to hydrate her. When she collapsed I called and they said they were too busy. It only went down hill from there and 3 days later we said our tearful farewells at Dove Lewis.

I didn’t take Banfield’s financial offer, even though we spent $7,000 trying to keep her alive after their mistakes. I found a new vet for my dog (who I also found out had irregular readings on her bloodwork I wasn’t told about by Banfield until I pointed it out to their medical director. "Oops, they should have advised me about the side effects of her meds.") Poor service = no trust.

In Lucy’s memory I want to make sure others think twice about corporate veterinary care that prioritizes profit and efficiency.

My poor kitty was having a rough time and they were able to get me in same day on a weekend. She’s a super anxious cat (requires meds before going) and they were so sweet and professional with her and figured out what was wrong right away. I’m very thankful!

Okay if you don’t have any other options. I recently changed from Banfield to a different vet and I didn’t realize how we were treated like a number at Banfield until we were treated so wonderfully elsewhere. I think if you don’t purchase a health program from them you are considered less important. We’ve had a difficult time scheduling any appointments that aren’t very far out only to get cancelled or pushed for more important animals to be seen. Plus the only option is to drop the dog off to be held all day and seen at their convenience which is WAY more expensive than just bringing them elsewhere. I’ve never been asked to submit fecal samples, I’ve never been asked to allow them to run blood tests on my elderly dog. I have however been asked to add every level of monthly purchased health programs over and over again. Adequate care but if you want your animal thoroughly cared for and treated well look where.
