Expensive!!!! I guess it is good care, but bring your wallet. There is an attitude that dropping a grand or two is no big deal. They seem to be as concerned about getting your signature on the list of charges as they do about your pet’s wellbeing. This is a place for the affluent. If you are of modest means, your pet may be out of luck.

We’ve used VCSG for almost two years now & they are amazing! We drive over an hour to take our dog to them for physical therapy. Very friendly & caring staff. Highly recommend!

    NIGHTMARE experiences here!
TLDR: VCSG is mismanaged and doesn’t have adequate staffing to provide emergency care. Do NOT take your pet here if they are in crisis.

    Detail:
In 2023, I took my pet to the office. It was not crowded, we were told we would see the next available doctor. It is an ER, I planned for patience. 2 hours later, staff told me we had been forgotten. They put us in a new room, told us the doctor would be in in less than 5 minutes. 15 minutes pass and I check again, and was told the doctor went to the room we had been in and was seeing other pets who had been put in our previous room even though we had been assured we were next to be seen. Our pet had been in its crate for hours without water in pain with an assumed broken tail. After 3 hours, we were finally seen by a doctor who told us the tail would never recover. We were told our only option would be amputation. VCSG told us the tail amputation is a risky surgery since it is an extension of the spinal cord, and said they were not comfortable doing the surgery that day with the doctor in office who didn’t have experience in that kind of surgery. I clarified multiple times “it’s not possible it will heal on its own? It will never be the same?” and the doctor reiterated it was an injury that our pet could not recover from. We were advised to see our own vet, to see if they had a doctor on staff who could do the complex surgery. We were told the surgery may be fatal if not completed by a specialist.
Update from our vet: There was no bone damage, it was a soft tissue injury and surgery is not needed, and there is no fatality risk. I can’t even put into words how physically and emotionally disturbed I had been for days because of the experience I had at VCSG and the fear I had about my pets health based on the info. we received from VCSG. God bless our amazing vet at Riverview who took much better care of us, saw us within minutes of our arrival, never forgot us in a room, and didn’t scare us half to death about something that ended up being a non-issue.

In 2021, I took a different pet to VCSG for constant vomiting, he was vomiting liquid or dry heaving dozens of times every hour. It was an emergency, and our vet was closed. After waiting for hours, they took my pet and ran tests. They noticed a thyroid issue, but my vet later determined this was not the cause of the vomiting. After leaving VCSG my pet continued to vomit because he actually had pancreatitis which VCSG didn’t know, didn’t test for, didn’t treat. Steroids I received from my regular vet finally stopped the chronic vomiting.
At VCSG, after spending hundreds on the visit, tests, and medication, I was told my pet would be right out. The doctor had already discussed the test results with me. 30 minutes passed and they still hadn’t brought my pet out. I went to check with the front desk, and without checking they just said he was still getting tests completed. They lied to my face. I told them that they already completed all tests, because the doctor had already come in to discuss tests results with me. The person at the desk went back to check, and came out with my pet who had soiled his crate after being in the back for hours. They sent him out with one of their own towels from the back. I couldn’t believe they just let my scared and very very sick pet just sit in the back forgotten. It was a terrible experience, and they weren’t even able to help my pet. I thought they must have just been very busy that day, that may be there was another emergency, but my 2nd experience there this year shows me this is a trend and just how VCSG treats pets and people.

Pet owners need to know VCSG is not equipped to handle emergencies, they can’t even remember who is in what room and where pets are. They aren’t able to adequately prioritize who needs care if they can’t remember who is in office. On separate visits with different pets they were not knowledgeable or diligent enough to find a solution. Don’t trust this place with your loved ones! It’s a waste of time and money. Go elsewhere.

Unfortunately I don’t remember the name of the gentleman I spoke to on the phone last night, as it was two a.m. and I was in a state of mild panic, but whoever he was deserves a raise. He was so kind and understanding despite my probable lack of coherency and walked me through a number of things- 10/10, some of the best customer service I’ve ever experienced. I wouldn’t hesitate to trust the life of my best friend to this person.

Our beagle underwent ACL surgery preformed by the amazing Dr. Hess and Dr. Barnett. To say that this dog is my world is an understatement. These doctors entered the room with a model and gave me a step by step on every second of the surgery. I was giving a 24/7 phone number and was told anytime I started to worry, give them a call. I defiantly used the number and was greeted with nothing but care and understanding. “I understand you’re worried Momma. You’re baby is doing great!” For a dog that was labeled “Aggressive” and has red flag on the medical report from his everyday vet, the doctors came in and said he really wasn’t aggressive. Join noisy. I’m very thankful to have been referred to them and can’t wait till my Kipper is back to 100{5652eae719f4bf2c70c8e13724e0d3f7f342558d8c74d791a9fd5924d668e312}. Thank you VCSG for helping our baby out.
