I was able to find a contact that answered the phone and scheduled via email using my timing for appointment..a quick round of innoculation so that I might move to a new apartment by the end of the week. I was able to enjoy a conversation with an accomplished veterinarian, and gain some insight into further treatment that would be recommended. I was even delighted to find another email with those recommendations itemized out for when I could take advantage on behalf of my buddy. He’s over 100 lbs and the vet tech handled him with ease. I saw an opportunity to get a quick nail trim, and the answer–“sure, no problem”. Great overall experience. I don’t know what they could have done any better.

Dr. Phillips, the other vets, and their whole staff is excellent and very caring. We’ve been using them for years. And the lobby is open again!

Best vet in town. Friendly, personal, caring. Everyone on staff remembers you and your pet. They don’t overcharge, give you lots of options of care, and call after appointments to check on condition.

UPDATE: 2023. This once trusted practice is now what I would call indifferent, perhaps in part because it?s now owned by a corporation. The vets at NW are still competent and care about what they do. Dr. Philips isn?t around much, and I don’t begrudge his retirement, but when he was more in charge, the support staff were generally more “supportive” and helpful. The COVID shutdown likely has something to do with the change, and perhaps it’ll bounce back to its former level.

    Original Review:
I first visited Northwest Veterinary to get a second opinion for a diagnosis, and though Dr. Philips had to confirm some very bad news, his genuine concern and professional demeanor were both evident. That day, Northwest became the only place I’ll take my cats ; the office visits are a bit more expensive than my previous vet, but the facility is spotlessly clean, the staff are professional, and I have never felt that doctors there would suggest tests or procedures unless they are absolutely necessary. Northwest is in business for the health and well-being of the animals they treat, and not for profit, and I am happy to say that I really trust their motives–a trust that I haven’t felt for the two other vets I’ve been to in Austin.

Northwest is also really good with cats, and they always follow up a visit with a call or two to ask how the treatment or illness is going. I’ve never had vets call me before to check on their patients, and it’s very comforting and reassuring to know that Northwest actually wants to find out whether their treatment is actually working.

If you want a vet you can trust, who treats animals with genuine concern, who is ethical when prescribing courses of treatment, and who is also forthright when discussing your pet’s condition, Northwest Veterinary Hospital is an excellent choice.
