Do not sign up for their care club membership!!! The technicians do not know the ins and outs of the plan and will tell you false information for signing up.
When I signed up I was told there is no penalty for canceling, you just have to be signed up for a minimum of a year. Fast forward 2 and a half years later I moved to CA. I had to call in 4 different times to cancel my membership because they said only the hospital manger can cancel it. When the manager finally called me back she said if I canceled I would have to reimburse them for all my medical bills in the last 6 months or I can continue to pay for a membership that I can not use since it won?t transfer locations. The manager agreed that the vet technicians don?t know about the plan but there is nothing they can do about it since I signed their contract.
If you are debating between pet insurance and care club please go with pet insurance. Care club is a fraud and they try to tramp your money. They will set you on automatic renewal and you can only cancel if your pet passes away.
My son got a new dog from the Dallas Animal Shelter and she started coughing a few days after he adopted her. The shelter gave us a voucher for $250 for vet bills. Anyhow, I called and asked if VCA Lakewood accepted the voucher and they said yes. I got an appointment for the next day and my son and I took the dog in. From the first moment, the receptionist was friendly and helpful. They scanned the paperwork we had from the shelter and that save us from loads of paperwork. We were taken into an exam room so the dog would not have contact with any others. The assistant came in and then the main vet. The vet was friendly and professional and we got the medication and were out the door in good time. A week later and the dog is without a cough and doing great. We will take her to this vet for the foreseeable future.
Very expensive nail trim – $50. Was happy going here until I saw this unexpected charge. Never expected it to be more than $20 at most. Nail trim and vaccines were done within 10-15 min and the nail trim was worse than what I do at home. We spent more time waiting than doing the visit. I?m surprised and a little disappointed as I had a good experience in previous visits and the actual vet has always been informative.
Overall would not recommend for treatment beyond standard check-ins and vaccinations. Our pet has a tumor and the team initially said their traveling surgeon could assist, then recommended a surgery center and back and forth a few times. I was the one consistently following up, versus the team contacting me which led to unnecessary delays. During one of the waiting periods they recommended x-rays, which cost hundreds of dollars and then provided no update on the results without me requesting a call from the doctor. We were as patient as possible (this was over 2 months) but found the experience very frustrating and thus wouldn?t recommend for any high-cost or high-risk assessments or procedures. I hesitated to write the review because I try to be as positive as possible but also rely on reviews so sharing for the benefit of others. If you have a healthy pet requiring routine treatment they would be a good fit.
