Best in class service
Original review from 2018: Friendly staff and vets who really make an effort to know you and your pet and provide excellent care at reasonable price. Techs are competent and gentle.
UPDATE 4/21/2023: I changed my 5-star rating last week after getting a passive-aggressive response from the manager after I emailed them to express dismay that prices had skyrocketed over 60{1f96f3ac06ff0a40273b2746ce89c9e811515a5baa44c632da8db77528714ebd} w/o giving clients a heads-up (nail trim that had cost $19 a couple of months ago was suddenly $30 when I checked out – and it took just 5 min with my docile cat) The most hurtful part was their jab about techs being underappreciated by clientele (Guess they didn’t see my original review or enjoy the homemade brownies I routinely bring to appointments). The owner response below is their edited version of what the manager emailed to me; for transparency’s sake, here’s the full version:
“Hi Tamara,
We apologize that you were shocked by the recent price increase of nail trims. As a practice, we have been one of the lowest in the town for a very long time. The business has suffered due to that as we are unable to adequately pay our staff the rates in which they should be paid. Many in the industry leave it, not because they want to, but that they cannot afford to live paycheck to paycheck. There is an ongoing theme in veterinary medicine that technicians are underpaid, overworked, and many times, underappreciated by the clientele. For years the needs of our staff have been overlooked and unaddressed. Our goal as a clinic is to provide high quality veterinary care in a manner compassionate to owners and their pets. We believe that by acting in a proactive manner, we will be able to maintain and extend the quality of life of our patients. In order to achieve these goals, we want to emphasize client education and preventive medicine. There is a balance of providing high quality veterinary care not just with the veterinarians we offer at the clinic, but also the technical staff.
We want to promote and maintain the health of our employees so we can retain employees who are highly skilled in this industry, such as Licensed Veterinary Technicians. Our clinic is excited to now have four LVTs on staff, when we used to have only two. We stand behind the increases for services done when you come in for a technician appointment as we have two skilled technical staff performing these services on our clients’ pets. If you have a nail trim done while here for an examination, the price is reduced at the standard $21. Some clinics in our area charge for the service and add on a tech exam fee. This has been a common practice we have seen clinics doing. We chose not to do this, instead increase the base fee. I am sure our technical staff appreciates how lovely your pets are for nail trims, oftentimes that is not the case. We are happy to teach you how to do it at home if they are so good for trims so you avoid the additional cost completely. I have added a credit on your account for future trims as a thank you for your continued partnership as Dr. Robbins as always loved caring for your kitties. We hope you understand the need for the increase and the trickle down effect it allows for our staff at Catoctin Vet Clinic.” thanks but no thanks, I’ll be moving on after nine years. 🙁
