I have been with this vet for over 2 years. Each time my younger dog has been vaccinated he has a bad reaction. the first time it was the normal side effects but he was lethargic and not responsive after a bit and the vet’s response was just to take him to the ER because they don’t have availability. The second time they gave my 13 lb dogs 4 vaccines at one time and he became unable to stand/sit up and vomiting and non responsive again and they had to keep him and give him meds and fluids.

I will note that we stay up to date on our dogs vaccinations and prior to coming to this vet we never experienced any type of negative effects.

So this time when we brought both dogs we got the minimum vaccinations and my other dog who never had a reaction and was happy and perky when he arrived slowly declined over the weekend and we had to Euthanize him 3 days later because internal issues that were not discovered until it was too late even though we had raised the issue that was symptomatic of his conditions at least 3 times over the last year and a half. I also hate that this industry has become so money centric. They give you a "bill" before you even get seen.

The vet visit which triggered this unhappy ending also included the purchase of Simparica (and he died 3 days later so we never used the medication). I tried to return this unopened un tampered medication and was told they couldn’t for FDA reasons. Why can i return medicine to CVS but not to the vet? When asked for a credit b/c I had spent 1500 part of which was for the medicine, i was told they couldn’t. I feel this situation should have been handled better to retain patients and show they care. I will say when my dog passed, The office did send a card and a little pin and some poems which was nice. I will also say that everyone is friendly and welcoming for the most part but where is the compassion and the ability to provide some help and consideration in the midst of my grief and to retain a happy customer. Won’t be back.

If you are looking to get your animal spayed or neutered at this place know they require a pre op. It cost us almost 800.00 to get our 6 month old beagle to get spayed. Otherwise staff is friendly.

We have been bringing our dogs since about 2002 to Abbey and I refuse take them anyone else. The office staff are always cheerful and knowledgable and the docs are more wonderful. Caring and compassionate with our dogs clear to the end.

I would not recommend Abbey animal hospital. In fact, I will never go back there again. If I could give no stars or negative stars I would. I had explained to the vet that my dog had been swimming for a long period of time and after getting out of the water seemed like her rear end, tail area was limp. I had a friend who explained that their dog had the same problem and it was known as "limp tail". It’s common in some breeds of dogs, including hounds, which my dog is and often occurs after long periods of swimming (google it). I explained all of this to the vet however, the vet still did x-rays and bloodwork. When she returned to the room she stated she couldn’t clearly read the x-rays because my dog was wiggling too much. Really? Ya think? She also returned stating that the blood work looks great. She then hesitated and stated that there was something in the blood work that could indicate a parasite, so she requested a fecal. So with all the x-rays, bloodwork, fecal test, exam, and the medication my bill was $609. What did I leave there with? The diagnosis I explained at the start of my visit and a small bottle of pain pills. Of course two days later when I got the fecal results they were negative. I feel the vet took advantage of me and rather than starting with a conservative approach just ran the gambit and racked up an unnecessary bill. I called to speak with the office manager and was directed to voicemail. was 4 days ago and I still haven’t received a call back.

Scheduled tests and wasn’t told we needed to prepay meds. Showed up for Scheduled appointment and had to reschedule due to them needing to order meds. Brought our dog back for appointment and was asked if he had fasted???? No wasn’t told he needed to. Terrible service!!
