I have taken my pets here multiple times and they are so hit or miss. For ?basic? emergencies like a cat eating chocolate or a puppy vomiting too much on the weekend they?re fine but I URGE you to take your animal anywhere else if you have an actual emergency. This week my dog was critically injured so I had to rush him in. Animal Emergency charged me over $1000 to give him fluids, very basic pain medication and a ?really terrible haircut? (direct quote). The vet (Dr. O?Dea) was very flippant and lackadaisical when explaining his discharge notes? I was told he was ?a painful unit? and needed to be seen by my regular vet? that?s it. Nothing else to prepare me for the dog they handed me AT ALL and certainly nothing to prepare me for what VCAs vet explained was likely to happen (less than an hour after his first discharge). Animal Emergency and Dr. O?Dea discharged my dog to me in extremely CRITICAL CONDITION with directions to go to my regular vet a full hour before my vet even opened with no guarantee they had space available ? turns out my vet was on vacation so they wouldn?t have been able to take him. Not only did they give me my dog bloody, in pain and terrified but the people who brought him out were the least compassionate and outright rude people I have ever met, certainly for people working in an emergency vet where they?re dealing with owners at their absolute worst. Thankfully I saw the writing on the wall and went to the other emergency clinic where they immediately took my CRITICAL dog to their intensive care unit and gave him on proper pain control and care. My dog did not end up surviving. I wish I would have brought him to the other clinic first? maybe his last hours would have been different.

We brought our French Bulldog there on Easter night (Saturday) because she was showing signs of extreme distress.

Dr. Ward looked at her and told us she couldn?t find anything – despite failing to offer additional testing.

The next morning, on Easter, our dog was still in pain so we brought her back in and Dr. Harris recommended some X-Rays and she thought there might be an issue in the lumbar region of the back.

Well, low and behold, working off Dr. Harris theory, we were able to get her in for a CT scan at the vet on Division and she had a lesion and herniated disc in her back. We got her to a surgeon in Bend, Oregon and by Tuesday morning they had performed surgery on her.

Big thank you and 5 stars to Dr. Harris who went above and beyond to see if there was anything going on because if we had listened to Dr. Ward, our dog would probably still be walking around with her back legs still partially paralyzed.

One last note: when the vet techs come out to get the dog and we describe that they?re in distress, saying ?it doesn?t seem like they?re uncomfortable? is probably the worst possible thing you could say to pet parents who KNOW there is something wrong. We?re not looking for their commentary – just a little empathy.

About 3 weeks ago my granddaughter called me, very upset, because she accidentally slammed the door on her cat’s (Momma) tail, and her mom, my daughter, couldn’t be reached. We took her to AEC and they gave the kitty pain killers and diagnosed her quickly. (Her tail was mangled badly..) The Doctors estimate was reasonable and I authorized the surgery. They kept her till later that night, sedated and comfortable, until we picked her up. The final bill was $100.00 less than expected and was given all her needed medications. My granddaughter called me the next day, happy her cat was doing great. The clinic called the next day to see how the cat was doing and follow up. We recieved GREAT care and service. Sometimes our loved pets don’t pull through and we are devastated and bitter and blame the clinic, but these veterinarians are doctors in every sense and deserved to be paid accordingly. Thank you AEC and all the staff that assisted.

Disappointed that I even had to give them 1 star! Have never been more upset and disappointed with any business. The worst business model I have ever encountered, you can?t enter the building at all! You must call them on the phone and You are forced to stay outside, the person on the phone was very cold and rude and acted like she didn?t even want my business. I was there at 6:30 with my very sick dog and she says well you know we close at 8!
My first time there and they expected me to just hand over my ?child? to a random person outside without even seeing there facility, not knowing if it was a legitimate, clean, knowledgeable place to let work on my baby. You know all it takes is some compassion in one?s voice and even just ack like you care really goes a long way. I asked to talk to the vet and couldn?t even do that, said he?ll call you on the phone! Lady comes out with a filthy towel to grab my dog and that?s when I said no way we are out! With that and everything else I would never go back and would say to anybody don?t waste your time!!
