I trust Dr. Mike with our family pets. He has a holistic practice which fits what we seek in a veterinarian. I like that he has many years of experience. After terrible experiences from other vets over the past few years, I am grateful to have found him.

Avoid The Petinary if your visit requires any TLC whatsoever. Fine for routine visits (vaccines etc). I hate to leave a negative review of a local business, but I want other pet owners to know what kind of care to expect here. Our dog unexpectedly died at 4am one morning and we took him in to be cremated when the Petinary opened at 7am. We’d been there before for a vaccination and had an unremarkable experience (not positive, not negative). However, this morning we had a very off-putting experience with the owner/veterinarian Dr. Mike Kohn.

When we arrived we were visibly in distress, but he didn’t say a word to us (not “welcome in how can I help you” not “sorry”). Without going into graphic details, the way he handled our dog’s body was upsetting. My partner asked Dr. Kohn if he had any idea what could have caused a sudden death like this in an otherwise very healthy dog. Dr. Kohn glanced at our dog’s file and said “he was 9 1/2?” We responded yes and he just shrugged and rang us up (I will say the cremation was not totally unreasonable and came in a very nice box).

When I came to pick up our dog’s ashes 2 weeks later, I met a slightly better version of Dr. Kohn, which — given the low bar of that first visit — meant that he handed me the ashes without a single kind word (he said “should be all there” and handed me the bag). Before I left, I told him he’d offended me and my partner with his gruffness and that I was planning to write a review to that effect. He avoided eye contact and said he didn’t remember the morning I was talking about. Bad days notwithstanding, bedside manner and customer service are part of the job, and based on my experience, The Petinary does not deliver. The Petinary made a bad morning even worse and I wouldn’t wish that on any other pet owner going through a tough time with their pet.

Dr. Kohn is great – he has a good bedside manner, is thorough, and always answers any questions.

I am highly recommending Petinary veterinary clinic in East Madison Wisconsin for any pet owner who’s looking for reliable, truthful, and compassionate care for their animals. I moved to Madison Wisconsin with my cat, Paulie in February 2022 this year. The cost of living is higher here than in Sacramento, California— where I moved from, so being I am in East Madison, and the home values are higher in this area, I figured all the businesses around me would be high priced, and boy was I ever wrong. I decided to take Paulie to the other place, which was often on the record, and as previously in the past with other vet visits, he had respiratory problems. I found he wasn’t getting better and many vets looked at him at the other place, prescribed antibiotics freely, other remedies of their own. Then, the last time I went in, as the antibiotics were making Paulie sick, the other place then gave him more antibiotics, then recommended scheduling x-rays, bloodwork. If that wasn’t enough, following that, he was to have surgery, and the total cost of all of this was to be approximately $2500 on up. I finally decided I had to find out what was up with this. I decided for Dr. Mike Cohen at Petinary to give me a second opinion on Paulies health, and it turned out, I was not needing any care from the other place, as my cat Paulie is fine and he is an older cat. Luckily, I found Petinary, and the cost of his healthcare is going to be a more reasonable. Dr.Kohn gave me freely, information to care for Paulie at home for continued good health. The homeopathic care at Petinary that Paulie received was like “night and day” compared to any care I have ever received for him. I felt comfortable, and so did Paulie in the Petinary office and exam room. Dr. Kohn gave Paulie cat food kibble and wet food samples to try for good health, that he sells in his office. I am happy today for Paulie, that I decided on Petinary in my neighborhood. Dr. Kohn is graciously, highly recommended to my family and friends .

I appreciate Mike’s approach to my animals. He is kind, mellow. His fees are very reasonable. I highly recommend taking your pets to the Petinary.
